A Frog Hunting Adventure

This story is about Billy and Abby Harrington who decide to go frog hunting down by the river, which was a short distance from their summer cottage.      
     “Billy, our boat is loose,” yelled Abby.      
     “Oh, oh,” said Billy. “We’re in trouble now.”   
The kids were now gliding swiftly down the river in an abandoned rowboat without oars. They encounter some frightening moments before they are rescued.

 


Mystery

Mystery of Murder Mountain

     Julie, a 13 year old, decides to take her canoe out on the lake even though a storm is brewing in the west.  She has to beach her canoe on the opposite side of the lake as the storm arrives. She has to hike through Murder Mountain to get home.  On this hike she encounters many strange sounds and rustlings in the woods.  She is frightened as she remembers the old Indian legend about the mountain. The mountain remains a mystery for all time.

 


Heroism

To Heidi with Love

         This story is about David, Karla, and Janie and their dog named Heidi.  The family has to move to England and cannot take Heidi with them.  The children are very upset and David thinks of a three part plan to keep Heidi with them.
     “Meet me at the barn,” says David to his younger sisters. “I have   a plan”.  Heidi joins them.
This story shows the love between 3 children and their beloved pet. It demonstrates the creativity, perseverance, and faith in a higher power.

 


Inspirational

A Remembrance to Grandma

     This story shows how dealing with death of a loved one can be very different for two people.  Paul had never thought much about this shelf when grandma was living, but now that she was gone, it was the one thing that met the most to him. Tears welled up in Paul’s eyes as memories of his dear grandma kept pouring in.
     Paul’s mother was assembling things for the garage sale.
     “You’re not going to sell grandma’s shelf?” asked Paul, in disbelief.
     “Yes, Paul.  It’s time to get rid of it,” said mother.
Paul is shocked by his mother’s decision and plots ways to convince her to keep it.

Run Ricky Run

     This story is about two boys who love to play baseball.  Ricky is handicapped and has to spend his life in a wheelchair.  His best friend, Jonathan, encourages Ricky to play ball again.  A plan is devised in such a way that Ricky can play ball, and become a team member again.
     Jonathan was proud of his best friend and his team. Ricky was finally convinced that anything is possible if you try hard, and have faith in yourself.
Ricky looked over to his friend, Jonathan, and said, “Thanks to you, man, I think I can do anything now.”

Joshua's Story

     This story is about a young boy, Joshua, who is dealing with some hurt emotions about a new baby brother that has just arrived in his home. He has to go play in his baseball game, but thinks he will run away from home afterwards.  He finally realizes that his parents do love him, just the same, as before, his little brother arrived. 

 

Mr. Wiggly gets a Friend

     This story is about young Stephen who goes fishing with his grandpa.  He learns all about fishing, and catches his first fish, which happens to be a big one.  He wants to keep the fish and names him Mr. Wiggly.  He finally  realizes that Mr. Wiggly has a family just like he does.  Mr. Wiggly gets a friend and is returned to the lake. 

 

No Kissin in the Woods 

     This story shows how innocent two 6 year olds are about kissing, and marriage, and how adults are more concerned about this subject.  Michael and Susie play in the school woods and experiment with a kiss. Michael’s mom learns of this from Michael and decides to talk with his teacher.  Teacher discusses some rules with the class, especially ‘kissin in the woods’. 

 

Michael is deeply impressed with the rule. In fact, that rule was the only thing that Michael could remember about his day in school.

Recipe for Making Memories

     This short story is about the memories of a young girl when she visited her grandma’s house.  She remembers the smells of cookies. The story time spent with her grandma.  Many warm memories are related.
