Joshua's Story

Next Page

I trudged down the hall to my bedroom, quietly closed the door, and flopped on my bed. I felt I was gonna bust like a balloon. Biting my lower lip didn’t help much as the tears dropped on my pillow. I thought it was gonna be neat having a baby brother.  I kinda like him! But he’s so small. So shriveled up – looks like a prune. Yea, man, little prunehead!
Everybody wants to hold him. Oh, isn’t he cute. Oh, he’s got his daddy’s eyes. He’s got his mommy’s nose. Big deal! Nobody even cares who I am anymore. Mom has a “hairy” if I try to pick him up. Dad yells at me if I chase Mo and Mow around the house. Even grandma doesn’t know I’m around anymore.
As daddy’s car pulled into the driveway, I tried to pull myself together – cause a man isn’t supposed to cry.
I slowly pulled on my red T-shirt that read “Don’s Pizza” in big white letters and the number 10 below it. My first baseball game was today.
Dad was calling me to hurry up. They just want me out of the house so’s ole “prunehead” can sleep. All he does is sleep! Mom asked me if I was feelin alright. I answered her with a nod up and down, and nibbled on my hot dog.
