“Right,” the girls said, as they piled their
hands on top of each other’s. Heidi jumped up on top of them to add
her vote also.
Then Karla said meekly, “What if it doesn’t work, David? Would we
really not go with Mommy and Daddy?”
“Well,” said David grimly, “That brings us to Plan C.”
All week the kids begged, pleaded, and bargained with
mom, but Plan A was not working. David called another meeting in the
barn.
“We need to put Plan B into action.”
David brought a notebook, paper, and pencil and wrote
up a petition. It read:
“We, who have signed below, refuse to
move to England, or anywhere, without our best friend, Heidi. We have
rights too. We are people too. We will stay on the farm with
Heidi. ‘cause we refuse to go. If Heidi stays, we stay.”
Signed: David Ramsey, Janie Ramsey, Karla Ramsey, and Heidi Ramsey.
“There,” said David, “We’ll give this to Mom and Dad
tonight. If this doesn’t work, then Plan C is our last chance.”
“Plan C?” asked Janie. “You never did tell us
what that was.”
“Plan C is the most drastic plan ever,” said David, wide - eyed, he wanted
to impress his little sisters. “I can’t tell you about it until I have
it all worked out.”
